The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing significant improvements to US 380 in Collin County, specifically from County Road 560 to County Road 699 (Hunt County Line), spanning approximately 7.6 miles. The project aims to create a new location realignment, transforming the existing US 380 roadway into a controlled-access freeway.
The proposed facility would consist of a six-lane divided roadway, with three lanes in each direction separated by a median, and continuous two to 3-lane one-way frontage roads, complemented by a shared-use path on both sides of the roadway. Where necessary, auxiliary lanes and entrance/exit ramps will be added. The proposed right-of-way would have a width ranging from approximately 270 to 542 feet, encompassing a total of approximately 364 acres.
To start the project, the right-of-way acquisition is set to begin in the summer of 2023, with construction scheduled to commence in 2026. This realignment and expansion of US 380 aim to enhance traffic flow and improve transportation efficiency in the area, benefitting both local commuters and travelers passing through Collin County.
Also, the project’s Final Environmental Assessment (EA) concluded with a Finding of No Significant Impact, suggesting that the proposed changes are not expected to have a significant adverse effect on the surrounding environment. With these plans in motion, the focus is on executing the proposed improvements to US 380 to meet the growing transportation needs of the region.
